This Diwali Make Your Pet Feel Safe
Diwali is the festival of lights, celebration of victory over evil. The fiesta is all about food, sweets, fun, lights, fireworks, crackers, loud noise. Everyone around seems so blissful. Diwali festivities get all of us energized but it can be frightening for our Pets. For the reason that they are not prepared for the sudden loud noise, bursting of crackers clubbed with bright lights.
This sudden exposure can develop undue stress, phobia, pain, partial loss of vision. It is also experienced that most of the pets go missing during the day of Diwali, as the loud noise of crackers now and then develops a natural urge among them to flee or hide from the situation or end up panicking. All in one reason for this can be that the pet is unable to associate with the noise, flashes, burning smell etc.
Hereby, it becomes imperative to take assured precautions to keep your pets safe and sound during Diwali. Some preceding safety measures on our part can save our darling pets from the adverse effect of crackers.
Here are some listed measures that every pet owner must take before and during Diwali –
-
Diminish The Sound–
It is not necessary that every pet will enjoy crackers. There is some exception and your pet might be an exception. One cannot stop others from bursting crackers, whereas one can surely minimize the loud sound of the same by using cotton plugs to their pets. Cotton plugs will surely not harm the pet. It would be safe and convenient.
-
Water –
Make sure to arrange adequate water particularly for the pet. Try to clean their eyes every 2-3 hours. Proper intake of water or it can be substituted with glucose must be made offered every 2-3 hours.
-
Avoid Extra Feeding –
If your pet seems not interested in eating, allow them. Forcing them to eat might create problems due to nausea. Keep a separate bowl of water for them.
-
Engage Them –
Try to keep the dog away from the crowd. Recommended to keep them in a closed room busy with some games, toys, television or any other stuff in which they seem to be interested.
-
Hide Them –
Crackers are harmful to pets and may result in serious concern. It is suggested to hide them at the time of burning crackers like by hiding them in the big dog house.
-
Nature’s Call –
Make sure not feed them with a stomach full. Also before the burning of crackers take them for a walk or for nature’s call. Try not to expose them to the loud noise, bright lights and especially the fumes.
-
Do Not Force –
Avoid being forceful towards your pet. If your pet seems disinterested in becoming the part of the celebration, let them be lonely. Lend a hand to them and it would be better not to expect them to be obedient at this particular period of time.
-
Keep An Eye –
As it is the celebration time, guests, family, friends, relatives, and kids might keep you busy. So, it would be a great idea, if the other members are asked to keep an eye on your pet. Placing notes on the doors, messages can make every member vigilant. This will help the pet not to escape.
-
Be Assured –
Diwali means crackers and no – one can be bunged from burning the crackers on this particular day. But one can be aware of the drastic effects of these loud crackers if fired or exploded at the wrong time and at the wrong place. Evaluate your options, and prefer the safest options by selecting the secure zone for your pet.
-
Petting –
Psychology says petting helps. It is agreed and accepted. Festivals come with loads of parties, relatives, guests, crackers and it is difficult to be aware of everything all together and especially when you have a pet. Try to spend some time with your pet. Do not just ignore them saying I am busy? A small call, clap, rubbing their back etc are enough or should say more than enough.
-
Protect Street Animals –
Your pet is a privileged one, whereas there are some animals out on the streets amidst Diwali fumes and noise. Aware others to be kind and generous towards them too.
This Diwali celebrates along with your pets but with some extra care. Advised not to make it menacingly noisy, which not only loses the sanctity of the festival but makes it painful for the pets especially cats and dogs as they are the special creatures with highly developed hearing power and exposure to lights and noise for a long duration can be harmful to them.
